Moku Hanga in Florence--3 day workshop

Moku Hanga Class Flyer (Italian Version).

I'll be teaching (assuming I have students) a class in early December here in Florence at the San Giovanni Art School where I have my studio. There is ample space to host 8-10 students and I've been slowly putting together supplies for a three-day class.  I hope to cover not only the basics of carving and printing but also have time for demonstrations of bokashi gradation printing, how to make a homemade baren, wood and paper preparation, image manipulation and transfer.....plus there'll be a discussion about the history of the method and the trajectory taken by modern practitioners. Oh, I hope to be doing this in Italian and English....
During my demonstration in two weeks at the LAILAC Japanese festival,  I'll have these available for interested onlookers.

(Oh, I wish the work on the right was by me.....)

    Good luck on the workshop, Andrew! I've done three two-day (6 hours) workshops and each time I've felt like it is just not enough time. You have to get everyone through carving their first block and transferring on the first day so day two can be about printing. I'll be interested to see how three days goes! I'm pushing for four next year. One word of advice... make sure you tell your students SIMPLE design or they will get caught up in carving. Best Wishes!

      Thanks Andrea. I'm worried as the "3 day" class means Friday and that knocks out lots of potentially interested folks. There's lots to cover and I'd like to be able to demonstrate some cool things without the risk that they won't finish anything.

    There is so, so much to cover! Three days will be better than two. The difficult part for me is that there is no way to get around the fact that it takes time to carve wood, and that is just one step in the process. People get anxious to print. I still get anxious to print whenever I carve!!

    Anyway, one thing I can absolutely guarantee... you will be very proud of each of the prints created in your workshop.

    So great that you used the maple leaf print in this flyer! Two visitors to my home in the last few days zeroed in on the one I have, and it isn't even hung yet, as a piece they really liked. Jeanne Sofen was one of them:-) I'm sure you will have students. Sandy

      Hi Sandy. I'm so glad that you have one. Send me a photo eventually of it if you ever get it up on the wall....they're sort of like kids for me....and as I never get around to having my hung it lets me see what they'd look like.
